Along The Road, the second collection of original stories and poems by area authors age 60 or older, is now available.

This collection of writings is a natural continuation of The Good Old Days book published two years ago. In many of the stories and poems, the writers take a look back at their lives. Some reminiscences are humorous, others serious. Read one story here.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will go toward Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging’s programs such as home delivered meals, senior centers, coordination of home care services, and other services that help seniors remain independent and in their own homes.

The cover art is 1942 by Diana Olinger of Waterloo. For the book, Olinger wrote, "My work is based on a technique called pointillism or stippling. Each picture is composed of thousands of ink dots on an acrylic background. Many hours are dedicated to one illustration and no matter how small, each dot is essential to the final piece. One misplaced dot on a person's face can alter their entire expression. 1942 is a picture of my father and his car. The automobiles of this era had real personality and are featured in much of my work."
