Older Americans Act and Impact of Reauthorization

Topic Description:  Since 1965, federal legislation known as the Older Americans Act has been the backbone for policy and program development, funding vehicles, and advocacy on behalf of our nation’s older individuals.  Over the years additional programs such as the long term care ombudsman and family caregiver program have been added based upon identified gaps in services and supports at the local level.  The Act is now ready to be Reauthorized to better reflect today’s needs.  Donna Harvey, Director, Iowa Department  on Aging will provide a historical review, an overview of the Act, and how you can play an important role in it’s Reauthorization.
