Older
Iowan Idol singing competition needs you.
The Iowa Family Caregiver Program is looking for
contestants to participate in the Older Iowan Idol singing competition at
the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines on Wednesday, August 18th.
This round of entertainment is part of the special programming that will
be offered during the Older Iowan Day at the fair.
Contestants must be either a family caregivers or seniors
who are 60 years old or better and live in Iowa. Entrants can sing solo or
in a group of no more than five. Contestant
can sing a cappella or with back-up music CD or by providing their own
instrument and/or accompanist. A piano will not be available for use.
Judging will be conducted by a panel of
judges and the audience. Decisions
by the panel will be final.
All contestants must be at the Maytag Building, Iowa State Fairgrounds by
10:45 a.m. for the first round of try-outs. Finalists will proceed to the
next finalist round which will be held at 3:00 p.m. Finalists are asked to
arrive 15 minutes early. Winners
will be awarded cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 for first, second and
third places respectively.

The Older Iowans Day and Older Iowa Idol are sponsored by
the Iowa Family Caregiver Program. Each of Iowa’s 13 Area Agencies on
Aging offers assistance through the Iowa Family Caregiver Program to put
caregivers in touch with essential services to help in their caregiving
role and to meet the needs of their older family member or friend.
Representatives from Iowa’s area agencies on aging will be on hand to
answer questions and help you have a Non-Stop Fun Day at the Iowa State
Fair.
